First Christmas Dinner

Nottingham Council House with Christmas LightsToday’s record-breaking Council meeting lasted only 30 minutes. Tea had been pulled forward to 4pm, and we still had to wait an hour and a half before it was ready.

It being the last Full Council before Christmas, we got turkey with all the trimmings. The Christmas Lights have been lit outside the building for a week or so, the German Christmas Market is in full swing all around (relocated from the centre of Market Square by building work.)

Tea? TEA? Abolish! Abolish! Abolish tea! Abolish you! Abolish everything!

We’ve been tearing up the traditions recently, including introducing time-limits on speeches. I don’t think tea is a particular worry. Unless you’re fishing for an invitation? (can you get to Nottingham by 4pm on yer average Monday?)

  3. Birmingham’s November meeting was dragged out to last long enough to make it to tea at 5pm (start time 2). There was only 2hrs worth of business, but “debates” had their guillotines suspended…
[I spent the meeting in the group office since I was paired off until after tea!]
