  • Interested to discover that Bavaria is a woman in the same way that Helvetica and Britannia are too. #
  • Just heard someone yodeling #
  • You can climb right up into the statue of Bavaria – she has cast iron plush seats in her cheek and a spy hole in her crown. #
  • There’s a photo spot in Marienplatz where a statue and two towers line up nicely. They’ve helpfully marked the spot. #
  • Grrr. You can get a Dirndl for as little as 19€ but Lederhosen are much pricier. #
  • Germany has all these towers everywhere with sausages on. Every time I see them, I think another Turm for the Wurst #
  • Trying to write a guestbook double dactyl in German. #
  • I’ve sent you an Orange Photo/Video Message. Go to http://www.orange.co.uk/mms/ Your ID is: q0j0k39aj Your password is: ty6xe9 valid fo … #

  • Heading out to Passau by train to see where three rivers, including the Danube, meet. #
  • @meryl_f was trying Lederhosen on in C&A – they’re very comfy but not cheap. #
  • Getting “Welcome to Austria” messages from Orange, despite still being in Germany – just. #
  • Conversation has turned to trains. There are some startlingly overinformed anoraks amongst us. #
  • Repairing to a Biergarten after an exhausting afternoon having lunch. #
  • Train making a long stop in Dingolfing. Suddenly pelting it down again #
  • It feels fresh and cool out after the rain, but a thermometer says it’s still over 20deg. #
  • @rfenwick never go out with a tennis player – love means nothing to them. #
  • Getting terrible service in an Italian restaurant. #
  • Food v good when it came, but somehow the waiter got it in his head we wanted our starters and mains simultaneously. #

  • Since I got here, I’ve seen 3 people on unicycles and about 20 with plaster casts, both of which seem statistically unlikely. #
  • I’ve been schlepping around stately homes since the crack of dawn. Nymphenburgschloss, Amalienburgjagdhaus. #
  • Sitting in a Biergarten waiting for a salad. #
  • In Germany they don’t seen to trust you with anything more than half a tomato. #
  • Amazing how drunk you can get on salad. #
  • Trying to figure out how the straps go. #
  • Missing Dr Who – Müchener bier will compensate until I’m home. Tonight – lesbian street festival. Hmmm. #
  • Lots of people telling me about German daleks #
  • In a bizare bar with countless Germans singing Y Viva España #
  • I’m so completely lost I have to take the S-bahn instead of the U-bahn! #
  • Oh dear. I’ve been in Germany less than a week, and am already getting cross when the U-bahn drivers forget to tell us about die letzte … #
  • Wondering if there’s a reason that the S-bahn crowd seem at least 20 years younger than the U-bahnmitfahrende #

  • Off on a day trip to Herzogstand, where there’s mountains, cable cars and panoramic views of Munich and the Alps. #
  • Fantasizing about building a chalet in the garden. #
  • Queuing for the Herzogstandbahn #
  • Clouds obscure the apparently excellent view from the mountaintop. #
  • Eating Kaiserschmarrn, which is like refried pancake scraps. I’m now starting to miss fruit and veg. #
  • The cloud has got a lot worse while we were eating and you can barely see the trees, let alone the view. #
  • We did climb on to summit despite weather and it suprisingly opened out into a bit of a view. Lovely alpine plants too. #
  • Now listening to distant cow bells and loud birdsong. #
  • Eating sheep’s cheese marinated in honey, olive oil and lavendar. Delicious! #

  • Trying to decide between Olympiazentrum and Deutsches Museum. #
  • Have climbed 180m high Olympiaturm with amazing view. Too much haze on horizon means can’t see Alps. #
  • Feeling virtuous. Well on track for eating 5 portions of fruit and veg this week. #
  • Wow, you can buy Lederhosen in C&A. 99 Euro. #
  • Another sunny day gives way to absolutely pelting it down. #

  • Good Morning Munich! Note to self – take bottle of water on Ruckfahrt #
  • Strolling along Isar river, which runs past digs. Can see enormous great fish. And also enormous great nudists. #
  • Ein Salamisemmel und ein Coca – €3. Apparently, we don’t say Brötchen in München.. #
  • Ooh, me feet are killing me! Time for a beer. #
  • @libdemjo quite a lot of respectable writers pay the bills dipping pseudonymic toes in the soft core morass. #
  • In a street cafe watching tiny women eat enormous cakes. #
  • In the time it took me to travel 3 stops on the U-bahn, it suddenly started tipping it down. #
  • There’s a bunch of people hanging around the stairs so they presumably think it will stop just as quickly. #

  • Saying Auf Wiedersehen to the cats who are sprawled, legs akimbo, in the tropical heat in the conservatory. #
  • Oh no! Backlog of trains. Fallen Overhead cables blocking the line near Kentish Town. #
  • Eep. Munich weather forecast is over 30 deg C and heavy rain. My favourite combination. #
  • On a taxi from Luton to St Pancras with 4 others trying to get connections. #
  • Just driven past Madam Tussauds #
  • Unbelievable. Long taxi ride with nice people got me to St P with 10 mins to spare, so I’m on the Eurostar I booked. #
  • They kept announcing more people would get on at Ashford, but no one did. This Eurostar is about half empty. #
  • @meryl_f To Munich to visit friends and reacquaint myself with language. Think I have those books, but ta! #
  • Sitting in the sun outside a bistro outside the Gare de l’est. Sweating cobs! #
  • Ensconced on sleeper train. Baking hot. My German definitely needs a lot of practice. #
  • Finally setting off, only 90 minutes late. Should easily make that up overnight. #
